A message to our guests who may have heard recently about skimmer devices detected at some Thorntons stores:

At Thorntons, our utmost priority is to protect our guests from becoming victims of criminal activity; we do so through investment in advanced security systems and activation of daily security protocol by Thorntons team members. Thorntons is an industry leader regarding the measures it takes to protect against compromised payment devices, including being an active member in the Kentucky Electronic Crimes Task Force.

Thorntons recently enacted additional security measures regarding payment devices on the inside of its stores. We completed comprehensive scans of all Thorntons payment devices at all 185 store locations across the country, installed some additional security measures, and retrained our team on how to spot compromised inside card readers. Thorntons also recently completed an expedited rollout to activate EMV chip readers on inside payment devices in all Thorntons stores across Ohio and Northern Kentucky.

At this time, Thorntons is not authorized to disclose additional information regarding recent skimmer incidents. Thorntons continues to provide its full and ongoing support to the U.S. Secret Service throughout its investigation into this matter. Local agencies are directed to contact their local Secret Service field office for more information as needed.
