Why does Thorntons have a hold on my bank account when I use a debit or credit card?

  • Thorntons does not place a hold on your funds. Any hold on funds is dictated by your bank or card issuer.
  • When you swipe the card at the pump, your bank is not sure how much you are purchasing, so a pre-authorization/hold is posted until the transaction is completed. Preauthorization is needed so the bank can make sure the debit/credit card account is active and you have appropriate funds.
  • Once your bank has processed the actual transaction, your bank will post the correct amount for the transaction (Preauthorization holds can range from $1.00 to $100.00, normally $75.00 by Visa, $100.00 by Discover/American Express/MasterCard).
  • If the transaction was cancelled in most cases it can take up to 3-5 business days for the hold to be released. However, it may be longer depending on the terms and conditions of your bank.

How do I get a refund for a transaction?

  • If you believe you were overcharged and are requesting a refund, please contact our Guest Services team by emailing or for more immediate service, please call 1-866-473-0017 during regular business hours. We will review the transaction details and contact you.
  • Once confirmed, refunds can take up to 3-5 business days before funds are posted to your account.

How do I get a copy of my receipt?

  • If you need a copy of your receipt, please contact our Guest Services team by emailing or for more immediate service, please call 1-866-473-0017 during regular business hours. Include the following information: store number or location address, date of transaction, the amount of purchase, and the last 4 digits of the debit or credit card used. Giving Back Hunger Relief

No child should grow up hungry in America, but one in six children struggles with hunger. Thorntons local store marketing efforts will focus on ending childhood hunger in America by ensuring all children get the healthy food they need, every day in the communities where our Team Members and Guests live and work.

In honor of the opening of the 200th Thorntons store opening in 2020, Thorntons donated $200,000 to help feed the hungry in our communities. Funds from the sale of a limited edition 24 oz. coffee have been distributed among 22 local hunger relief organizations. In addition to our regular donation of surplus foods, Thorntons continues to engage Guests in raising funds for hunger relief through a new “Round Up” program. At the register, Guests are invited to round up their purchases to the nearest dollar for a donation to the store’s local hunger relief partner. As with the coffee proceeds, all funds raised in a community will stay in that community.

Giving Back Donation Assistance

Thorntons limits its assistance to organizations that the company selects and solicits based upon our philanthropic guidelines. Organizations must have been granted 501(c)(3) status by the Internal Revenue Service and requests or specific program support are preferable to requests for general operating funds. Special consideration is given to organizations with which Thorntons Team Members are actively involved, provided the organization falls within the general focus areas above.

If you believe your organization meets these criteria, please complete our giving back form for consideration.

Environmental Stewardship

As we design new stores and update our current locations, Thorntons carefully considers opportunities to improve our environment.

Some of our efforts include:

LED Lighting

In all of our currently remodeled stores as well as all future renovations, we have installed (or will install) LED cooler lights. We also have selected Beta LED exterior lighting for 39 of our stores and will continue to use them for all future renovations and new stores.

Harvesting Daylight

In an effort to reduce our energy consumption, we make strong use of natural lighting. We use window shades to help keep our stores naturally cooler and use natural lighting to reduce our usage of electric fixtures.

We have two dumpsters on most of our premises, one for miscellaneous waste and one for cardboard recycling.

Efficient Appliances

We use Energy Star appliances in all of our locations.

Eco-Friendly Cleaning Products

Our stores are cleaned internally and externally with cleaners that are environmentally safe and friendly.

Many Thorntons locations offer both E85 and Biodiesel for energy-efficient automobiles and trucks.

Based in Louisville, Kentucky, Thorntons currently operates over 190 stores that provide fresh foods, high quality beverages and fuel in six states: Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, and Tennessee.
